Yesterday marked day 3 of our month-long Summer Series: 25 minute daily talks all throughout July. This session features Debra Corey, Best-Selling Author, Speaker and Consultant at DebCo HR LTD. Her talk covered bringing your values out to play during and after the pandemic.

Why are values important?

  1. Firstly, and perhaps most obviously they help you achieve your mission.
  2. They do this by guiding our decisions and actions. Our employees are constantly standing in a fork in the road and values will tell them which direction to go in.
  3. Guides you to pivot and flex during challenging times – which we have seen in practice during the Covis-19 pandemic
  4. They also have the ability to give certainty and comfort in times of crisis

With all this considered, it’s pretty worrying to find out that a Reward Gateway study reported only 32% of employees feel informed about company values! Even more worryingly a Gallup survey revealed only 23% of employees strongly agree that they can apply their values to their work.

What are we getting so wrong?

Debra’s talk gave her top tips on how you can unlock your values and bring them “out to play” as well as some case studies from companies who have got it right. Her advice showed how you can make values a part of your employees muscle memory so your they are making decisions that are in line without even having to think about it.
