GallupGallup’s inaugural measure of global loneliness shows over one in five people worldwide (23%) said they felt loneliness “a lot of the day yesterday.” Worldwide, experiences of loneliness are similar across demographic groups, including gender and age. The average working adult spends a majority of their week at their place of work and the environments in which we work in is a major contributor to the global loneliness pandemic.
Gallup has been studying human behaviour in the workplace for over 85 years and know that feels of mutual trust and belonging in our workplace cultures is an essential element of engagement and performance. Gallup is well known for it’s tenth question (Q10) on the Q12, a framework for measuring employee engagement, ‘I have a best friend at work,’ and knows that teams who can strongly agree to this statement have higher levels of well-being, productivity and belonging.
In its time, Gallup has not just been measuring mutual trust inside organisations but partnering with organisations to build it by building greater connectivity between in teams through the lens of their talents.

OpenBlendBuilding Belonging Through the Power of 1:1s
In today’s workplace, a sense of belonging and collectiveness is more than just a “nice to have” — it’s a must have.A sense of belonging & collectiveness pulls every part of employee journey into consideration. Given our specialism, we were particularly curious around the role 1:1s play throughout the employee journey, homing in on the sense of being supported. As a result, earlier this year, OpenBlend and Inspiring Workplaces collaborated to conduct a piece of research into the critical role 1:1s play in creating a connected and thriving workforce.
The results revealed a reassuring yet arguably, underdeveloped approach to 1:1s in the workplace. Join Anna as she shares more insights from our research project, delving into actionable strategies for transforming 1:1s into meaningful conversations that build trust and empower your people to thrive at work.
