The Idea
Believe Perform is an amazing online resource for teachers and coaches and it was all the idea of one young team member – Adam Morris. At the start, it was just an idea, so this was not about refining or changing something that already existed; it was an act of pure creativity, driven by a desire to make the world better and frustration at the lack of information and tools around to help coaches and teachers lead around mental health and performance psychology.

Starting with just an idea, Adam’s creation now has a following of over 80000 people, is valued by coaching bodies, coaches, teachers and students alike. It has worldwide reach, with some pieces of content reaching over 35 million people last year. In the last 12 months, Adam has also led the development of Believe Perform into a membership model and judging by early sales, this will be a great success too.

How to make it happen

1. Create the conditions
Adam knew that he had the freedom to bring ideas to the table because it’s hard-wired into our culture. Conversations that start with “I’ve had an idea…” are very common around here.

2. Give the idea space and freedom
We had no idea at the start whether Believe Perform was going to be a success, though we did know that as with any new concept, it needed space to grow and the freedom to fail. Adam knew he had the freedom to test things out and to learn from the things that both went well and those that didn’t. We valued creation over control.

3. Market the project
At the early stage, a project needs internal supporters, advocates and sponsorship. The Believe Perform project was marketed really well internally so that momentum and excitement built and no-one questioned Adam’s focus on making it happen.
