Stories from an Inspiring Leader – Sharon Moore
Sharon Moore, Housekeeper, Whitbread
Sharon was courageous in stepping forwards to nominate herself as an Our Voice representative – it takes real guts to step up and put yourself through an election process, allowing your peers to decide who is elected to represent them, but Sharon was always clear on the contribution she could make.
Her statement was as follows: “I have been part of the housekeeping team at Whitley Bay for one year where I have formed great friendships and am known for motivating the team. Having recently been chosen as the sites H&S representative during the pandemic I fully understand the importance of being approachable and sharing information neutrally and accurately on a professional level. I have excellent communicative skills which I feel are a catalyst in such a role as the “Our Voice” representative and am confident in new environments engaging with others at any level. To become an ‚”Our Voice” representative would be a privilege to undertake.”
Sharon has been an excellent communicator. She regularly posts motivational messages on our ‘Purple People’ Facebook page which has an audience of 14,000. She has actively represented her colleagues in Housekeeping by being an active member of Our Voice (our employee forum) through the recent formal collective consultation processes that we have run as we are sadly having to make up to 6,000 team members redundant. Sharon was also impacted personally by this announcement, but continued to be an effective and committed representative.
“Sharon has been amazing through the collective consultation process and in her role as Our Voice rep, but this is only one element as she has also been brilliant in her day job despite being impacted personally and taking on the additional tasks associated with Our Voice. […] she has been a super star for our team”
